The Editor and Publications Officer is responsible to the Senior Communications Officer.
Responsibilities
- Acts as key English-language editor and copywriter for all day-to-day copy, including press
releases, human interest stories, photo essays, and all other public-facing content, to ensure
compliance with the UNRWA English-language style guide and consistency with the Agency'
s communications strategy and advocacy objectives. - Drafts and edits UNRWA English-language publications and printed materials, including
reports, appeals, brochures, fact sheets, maps, calendars, post cards, posters, etc. in
collaboration with UNRWA staff, as necessary. - Supervises design, layout, and printing of all English-language printed materials, either inhouse
or with a professional design company, as appropriate. - Drafts official UNRWA Publications Guide, outlining the publications drafting and approval
process, both for in-house and outsourced publications. - Supports the Agency-wide coordination and implementation of engaging awareness-raising
campaigns for international, regional, and local audiences about the nature and impact of
UNRWA work. - Provides branding and editing support to UNRWA staff, including headquarters
departments, representative offices, and national committees; develops branded templates for
external and internal communications, including publications and internal documents, to
ensure compliance of English-language publications and printed materials with the UNRWA
English-language style guide and branding guidelines. - Updates and maintains an online filing system of all electronic formats of UNRWA
publications; supervises the distribution of hard copies to fields and representative offices and
for official visits and delegations, as required.

Education
A university degree from an accredited educational institution in communications, public
relations, journalism, or a related discipline.
Work Experience
At least six years of progressively responsible and relevant experience in copywriting and
editing and implementing communications guidelines.
A minimum of 2 continuous years of relevant international experience outside UNRWA, and
outside the country(s) of which the candidate is a national or holds citizenship, a passport or a
national identity number.
Working knowledge of Adobe publishing software (i.e. Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator,
Adobe InDesign).
Experience with international organizations, INGOs, major media outlets or similar
organizations in a development context (desirable).
Languages
Excellent command of written and spoken English.
Satisfactory knowledge of Arabic language.
Assessment
Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which may be
followed by competency-based interview.
Special Notice
Type of Contract and Duration: 2 years, with the possibility of further extension.
The Editor and Publications Officer may be required to travel in the Agency's area of
operations.
