Background: InterAction Senior Fellow Jerrold Keilson is creating a Center for Development History that will preserve experiences and lessons learned from experienced development practitioners, archive the material and make it available to practitioners, academics and researchers, and undertake activities that promote the use of historical analysis in development programming. Jerrold is an experienced international development leader and practitioner who has held executive positions with World Learning, International Youth Foundation, Creative Associates, and presently with Social Solutions International.

Position Summary: The Consultant to the Center for Development History will be responsible for the following tasks under the direction and guidance of the Senior Fellow, Center for Development History:

• Contact potential interviewees to introduce the project and arrange oral history interviews;

• Share background material on the project, release forms, and illustrative questionnaire to the interviewee prior to the interview;

• Conduct and record oral history interviews, download and send them to external online transcription service, and review the written transcript against the oral recording;

• Send the written transcript to interviewee for final review.

• Working with the American University Archives and Special Collections, upload both the oral recording and written transcript to the AU Digital Research Archive.

• Maintain records and trackers of all potential and actual interviews.

• Working with the Senior Fellow, draft short blogs and announcements suitable for social media dissemination.

• Assist the Senior Fellow in developing and implementing a fundraising strategy that can include requests for funding by individuals and grant applications; and

• Provide other logistical and administrative support as required.

• The consultant can work remotely for much of the time, depending on specific tasks;

• Weekly check ins with Executive Office and Senior Fellow will be required.

• Work with InterAction’s Executive Office on other special projects and research.

Required Qualifications: The successful candidate should be a self-starter, organized, personable and have some experience doing oral histories or other types of qualitative research. Coursework in history (oral or public history), anthropology, or international relations will be helpful. Someone who is currently in college or graduate school is encouraged to app
